Kathleen Rountree –The Path to Follow to Evaluate a Quilt

Kathleen Rountree is an experienced quilter, textile artist and quilt judge.  She will be sharing with us her experience relating to quilt show operations and judging elements.  This talk walks the attendees through the use of a “pathway” to evaluate a quilt, or to compare one quilt to another – it is useful to quilters looking critically at their own quilt or at the quilt made by another.

Tuesday, February 13th Workshop

Kathleen Rountree –Backstage at the Quilt Show

$15 members /$45 for nonmembers –maximum 20 attendees

This workshop covers a broad array of topics, including publicity, funding, audience enhancement, plus running the judging process, the role of all the volunteers, and an intro to judging itself. Sign up early for your spot!

Fees – $30 members / $45 non-members

This workshop will allow participants to create a quilt suitable as a wall hanging or table topper.

Join Janet in a day of creativity and “stepping outside the box”. Watercolor quilts are her favorite, and she hopes to make them yours as well. She will be guiding you on how to achieve success with fabric choice, blending and design. The Heart is the basic beginner watercolor choice and the easiest way to learn the basics.

Janet will be available any day prior to class to help you, if needed, with fabric selection and to review any basic quilting questions you may have. Please see the supply list for additional information.

April

Monday, April 8th Program

Quilters Gallery -Show and Tell

Quilters Gallery, aka “The Pizza Girls” will bring their experience and talents in quilting in April. In addition to the program, they will set up an area to sell patterns, rulers and quilt fabrics. Quilters Gallery brings their current selection of quilts and quilt tops, usually about 50 or more for our pleasure. Some are samples of current patterns and some are their original designs. As they go through the quilts, they discuss color, creative fabric use and simple border treatments along with lots of tips and tricks that they have learned in the past 25+ years.

Tuesday, April 9th Workshop

Quilters Gallery – Embrace Curves

$30 members / $45 members – $9 for pre-cut kit

Workshop will cover Rainbow Curves, Wheel of Mystery and Winner’s Bouquet block. All attendees will need to buy the kit ($9). The kit will include all pieces pre-cut, ready to sew. No need to buy the ruler unless you like the technique. Fees – $30 members / $45 non-members $9.00 kit w/ 3 different curved blocks. Please click here for pictures of the quilts.

Carolyn Rotela – Tumbling Blocks

$30 members / $45 nonmembers

“Cubed Project” Star 60 — Use the Capped 60 Technique Sheet to make the Cubed project. Inspired by the book Big Book of Building Block Quilts by Sara Nephew — Honeycomb Waffle 2 pattern.

This class uses the Star 60 tool along with a Technique Sheet from Studio 180 Design to create the cubes to make this 3-D sampler. It is important to have a good contrast with each of the light, medium and dark fabrics you choose to achieve the illusion. Small scale prints or blenders work best for the color values. You can take a picture on your phone and edit with filter to black/white or grey scale. This will let you know if you have the correct values from your fabrics. Please click here for a picture of the quilt. Please see the supply list for additional information.
